Boost Control Solenoid Restriction Removal

The 2g Boost Control Solenoid (BCS) has a restriction in the nipple that goes to the turbo compressor hosing (boost sense). This restriction is supposed to limit the boost pressure that can be bled from the waste gate. If you remove this restriction you will be allowing more air to be bled and thus keep the wastegate closed longer. It also seems to help boost build quicker. I noticed that going from cruise to WOT at around 3500 rpm, I got to max boost noticeably faster, but it could be my imagination (others have confirmed it though).

The advantages to this mod as I see it (besides the extra 1-2 psi boost) is that you still maintain stock boost control for the prevention of knock and detonation. However, you do get a little more boost spike (19 psi) on shifts, and when you go to WOT in 2nd and 3rd. The consensus so far (there are a few dissenters) is that the spike is OK even with the stock FP because it is short lived and at low rpm: where fuel flow is low and knock is less likely. So for a free mod this one is a whopper.

Be very careful with this mod when you start putting larger exhaust systems on. I was getting crazy boost and had to replace the restriction. Moral of the story: Save that little restriction, you may need it back.
