Upper Intercooler (IC) Pipe

The stock intercooler pipe is made of plastic and has so many bends and twists in it, I just can't see how it could give you decent airflow. If you are going to completely replace the upper IC pipe then consider getting a new BOV; perhaps a pre-95. I say this, because it will be much easier to retrofit than the stock 2g valve which is a serious boost limiter in and of itself. Don't forget . . . You have to replace the air box with a cone type filter to obtain the clearance necessary for the new piping. There is no way around it so deal with it :)

Another option offered by Mac Crossett is to replace the restrictive portion of the piping with 2" inner diameter radiator hose. This mod seems to work just as well as the commercial products and is MUCH CHEAPER ($15 vs. $250); all be it without the sparkle of polished stainless steel. It also works real well with a 3000gt BOV which requires no adapter like the 1g BOV and works just as well (for less money too). However, if you plan on ever getting a different upper IC pipe you might as well get a 1g BOV now and just eat the cost of the adapter since it won't be needed at that point. A 3000gt BOV will not work with any other upper IC BOV mount other than the stock one.

See my article on other Upper IC pipes that are available.
